This park is a narrow barrier island stretching 10 miles between the Atlantic Ocean and Barnegat Bay. It is one of the few remaining undeveloped barrier beaches on the north Atlantic coast. Ten miles of white sand attract swimmers, surfers and anglers. At the extreme southern end of the beach is an area set aside for sailboarding and surfing. Scuba diving and underwater fishing are allowed in certain areas. There is a bike path and 8 walking trails that let you explore the unique ecosystem. Horseback riding is allowed from Oct 1 through April 30. The state’s largest osprey colony as well as peregrine falcons, shorebirds, migrating songbirds, wading birds and waterfowl are found here.
