Muir Beach

Muir Beach preserves a sandy strip of coastline where Redwood Creek reaches the ocean. High bluffs border the beach to the north and south, while wetlands and a lagoon can be found behind the beach.

Nearby, the Muir Beach Overlook provides spectacular panoramic views in every direction. On a clear day, one can see San Francisco's Ocean Beach to the south, Bolinas and Point Reyes to the north, the top of Mt. Tamalpais to the east, and all the way to the Farallon Islands, to the West. On a foggy day, there are several Coastal fortifications to explore, and picnic facilities to enjoy.  North of the beach is the small community of Muir Beach.

Muir Beach Overlook has several picnic tables, outhouses, a paved parking area, and several trails onto the rocky outcroppings. In the spring, wildflowers are abundant here. While some picnic tables are in the open with great views, others are tucked amongst the trees for wind protection. Please stay on the designated trails and away from cliff edges; coastal cliffs are unstable and winds are common.

Getting There from Muir Woods:
Exit either parking lot by turning right. Continue about 2.5 miles to Highway 1. Turn right on Highway 1. Drive 1.6 miles. Turn left at the sign for Muir Beach Overlook Rd. Drive .1 mile to the parking lot.
