500 Festival Breakfast at the Brickyard - The 500 Festival was created in 1957 to organize civic events celebrating the Indianapolis 500. It is a not-for-profit organization supported by corporate sponsorships, memberships and ticket sales. More than 7,000 volunteers help produce 500 Festival events. With annual participation of approximately 425,000 people from around Indiana and the world, it has grown to be one of the largest festivals in the nation. Broad Ripple Art Fair - Established in 1971, the Broad Ripple Art Fair brings together more than 225 artists from the U.S. and Canada, booths from local cultural organizations, a children’s creative area, gourmet food courts, a beer and wine garden and live entertainment on four stages and the Frank M. Basile Auditorium. The Art Fair takes place in ARTSPARK on the grounds of the Indianapolis Art Center annually each May. Circle City Classic - This event supports educational achievement, promote cultural excellence, while showcasing the spirit, energy and tradition of America's historically black colleges and universities. The work towards helping natives of Indiana pursue higher education. Be sure to include this event on your next trip. Circle of Lights Downtown Indianapolis - Millions of sightseers take in this brilliant spectacle throughout the holiday season until after the first of the new year. The decoration of Monument Circle is one of Central Indiana’s favorite holiday traditions, drawing generations of families each year to share in the spirit of the season. Drum Corps International World Class Championships - As a youth activity, the world of competitive drum and bugle corps is an intense, choreographed musical experience staged on football stadium fields by students achieving high levels of excellence in performance. Through the drum and bugle corps experience, young people develop life skills including self-discipline, teamwork and leadership. Indiana Black Expo Summertime Celebration - Indiana Black Expo, Inc. has been a pillar of the community for nearly 40 years. It has encouraged, uplifted and celebrated the accomplishments and achievements of African Americans throughout Indiana. Indianapolis Greek Fest - Authentic Greek cuisine, live music/dancing, church tours, and more! Put on by the Indianapolis Greek Orthodox Church, this is a party just after Labor Day. Indianapolis Irish Fest - Visit Indianapolis during the month of September and drop in on one of Indy’s most well-attended events, the Irish Festival. The three-day event holds a series of unusual and fun competitions. Experience some authentic sheep herding with border collies and meet the canine stars, watch some traditional Irish Hurling, and listen to the Irish Toast Contest as competitors try to impress the judges with their witty banter. Indianapolis Italian Street Festival - The Italian Street Festival features over 25 different Italian meats, pastas, salads & desserts! There is live music and dancing, and games for everyone. The Street Festival takes place in early June at the corner of East Street and Stevens Street each year. So come and join us as we celebrate our Italian heritage. INDIEana Handicraft Exchange - The INDIEana Handicraft Exchange is a contemporary craft fair that consciously celebrates modern handmade goods, the relationship between creator and consumer, and local, alternative economies. The IHE is quickly becoming a notable stop on the indie craft fair circuit. The INDIEana Handicraft Exchange is the first and only of its kind in Indianapolis and is currently held biannually. Stadium Village Farmers Market - A new farmers' market on Meridian Street featuring everything from fresh eggs to chocolate, locally grown vegetables and produce to wine, oil, flowers, bread, honey, and lots, lots more from nearly 30 vendors. Talbot Street Art Fair - With over 270 artists from across the nation, this art fair continues to be ranked as one of the finest fairs in the country. This is a family friendly event with plenty to see and do for everyone. The 48 Hour Film Project - The 48 Hour Film Project is a wild and sleepless weekend in which you and a team make a movie—write, shoot, edit and score it—in just 48 hours. On Friday night, you get a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, all to include in your movie. 48 hours later, the movie must be complete. Then it will show at a local theater, usually in the next week. X-Fest - 50 Bands, 8 stages. 15 blocks and 15,000 people. The valley's biggest party since 1999. X-Fest! |
