Located
in Atlantic Beach which is about 45 miles east of Jacksonville, NC on
a barrier island. The park is home to a Civil War fort. There are guided
tours of the fort or you can go on a self-guided tour. There is also
a museum with exhibits that tell about the fort’s history. The Coastal
Education Center has exhibits on barrier island ecology, the North Carolina
coast, and the natural history of the park. Other activities include
fishing, walking on the beach, picnicking, swimming and birdwatching.
