16 de Septiembre Parade and Festival - Floats, marching bands and more are part of this family-oriented event going strong for nearly a quarter century. Celebrate San Antonio - From fireworks on the evening of Dec. 31st onward through New Year’s Day, San Antonio celebrates with live music on multiple stages, food booths, and family activities. Dawn at the Alamo - A commemorative weekend-long program, including re-enactments, recognizes sacrifices made on both sides of the Alamo battle. Dia de los Muertos - Translated literally as "the Day of the Dead," this Mexican cultural tradition is a celebration in which the family welcomes back departed loved ones. Creative and respectful altars are set up around town at galleries, cultural centers, cemeteries and restaurants to commemorate loved ones who have passed on. Poetry readings, and calavera processions (participants dress as skeletons) are typical events as well. Fiesta Arts Fair - In mid-April, the Southwest School of Art and Craft presents a festival with over 100 artists, food provided by local restaurants, live entertainment and children's activities, all in preparation for the annual 10-day city-sponsored Fiesta San Antonio featuring parades and many activities that draw crowds from all over the country. |
Martin Luther King Jr. March and Rally - Honoring the Civil Rights leader, this is the largest people's march in the country. Other events throughout the city include a rally, art exhibits, workshops and candlelight vigils. Poteet Strawberry Festival - More than just a celebration of the strawberry, this festival is one of the oldest, most popular events in the state and is recognized as the largest agricultural festival in Texas. Located just south of San Antonio, the Poteet Strawberry festival includes concerts, dancing, rides, gunslingers, rodeo performances and of course lots of strawberries. St Patrick's Day on the River Walk - Every year on St. Patrick's day, the San Antonio River is dyed green. The world famous Riverwalk, with its cascading waterfalls, pirouetting wildlife and illustrious fauna, is a source of hope and inspiration to millions of visitors every year. Wurstfest - Ten day German party celebrating sausage in New Braunfels held yearly in November. Definitely the biggest party in Comal county with plenty to eat and drink. |
